New finding Eco-tourist waterfall in Lain Village

Tompun Community in Larin Village wants Kakluk Waterfall to be a popular eco-tourist place in the future. The two communities, Lain Srea and Lain Chamka, try to turn the waterfall into a good place for local tourism. Kakluk Waterfall is a heritage from the Community’s ancestors and therefore it is a special place for them and a place they worship. It has happened twice that the community has had to clear tree areas and plant new ones around the waterfall in order to keep the renewable green landscape around the waterfall and protect the area. This waterfall is located in Lain village, Toeun Commune, Konmom District, Ratanakiri Province, and the community received the Communal Land Title from the Government in 2012. This project is supported by NTFP-EP and NTFP-ICCO and coordinated by Cambodia Indigenous Peoples Organization in order to create eco-tourist in Lain

Village. On September 15^th, 2017, this community received more than one hundred different type of trees which was requested and coordinated by CIPO. After they planted the trees around the waterfall, there weremore than 60 participants who came from both Lain Srea and Lain Chamka Village and it included youth, women, committee, and local authority. This waterfall is 25 kilometers from Banlung Town, and four kilometers from Lain Village. It takes around 30 minutes to travel from Baulung Town, and it takes 15 minutes from Lain Village. Therefore it is an interesting and potential place for tourism. The future plans for the community are to create visits for eco-tourist and organizing such. Also to request to the Department of Provincial Tourist to provide technical management and control eco-tourists which will be in the end of this year.
